Importance of Marketing in Business

February 17, 2010 by: Make Money

Marketing plays a vital role in business. This is aspect of the business that the entrepreneur can not afford to ignore. Without marketing people do not know about your company or products and services you offer, and this is reflected in poor sales. This is not good for any business.

Just because you opened a business does not necessarily mean that people will flock to your establishment, especially if nobody knows your business and what you have to offer. This is where marketing comes into play. For any business to succeed, it needs a marketing plan very effective. You must be able to let people know that your business exists and that you have something to offer.

We can not minimize the role of marketing in companies. Poor marketing and sales to low income means that little or no profit at all. A company that is not profitable is not an asset but a liability. That is why most companies hire someone to be the marketing manager whose sole responsibility is to find ways to market products or services of the company he works. It is also responsible for formulating marketing strategies to stimulate sales of the company.

That’s why companies in the United States alone spend billions in marketing each year. These firms engage in advertising to help market their products, they pay millions of dollars to celebrities and athletes to endorse their products and services. Over the years marketing has become so important that is has become an industry itself, the advertising industry. The advertising is very lucrative, if you do your thing. Companies spend a lot of money on advertising agencies to come up with their advertising material for print, television and radio.

There are many ways for an entrepreneur to market its products. You can advertise through traditional print media, television and radio. Another way of advertising is through the Internet. Having an official website people will be able to know your business and services you offer, they can browse your online catalog, they can send you an email if they have questions and even make their purchases directly through your website. Sponsoring events is another way of marketing.

Take NASCAR for example, is a race, but it is also a great marketing tool for many businesses. So when you watch and you watch NASCAR racing cars, you can view all types of brands and logos all around vehicles, as well as the race driver’s uniform and helmet. Companies pay a lot just to make their mark on the cars. How much the company pays depends on where they want their logo or mark to be placed. Having your logo on the hood of the car can be very expensive, but if you consider that the race visits the country and if you can imagine the number of people who come to watch the race, it is indeed an excellent way to advertise.

Marketing takes a lot of thinking and planning as well as money, but if done the right way the gain is worth the effort of your company.
